BIOGRAPHY In 1987, my parents uprooted our family from Cuba and we came to settle in Miami, Florida as Cuban immigrants. I remember my father holding 18-hour work shifts for over 10 years while my mother worked retail jobs in order to sustain our family and earn our way to the middle class. Their loving and relentless example formed who I am today and made me realize the importance of family and hard work. Shortly after settling in Miami, at the young age of 11-years old I suffered a traumatic personal injury due to the negligence of personnel at a theme park. This experience sparked my interest for the law, for what it means to do right, and it fed a passion that stayed with me. Immediately after graduating from Miami Coral Park High School, I went on to hold a fulltime job at a Personal Injury law firm while attending Miami Dade College in the evenings. Having come from a family that had to work very hard to support us, I had to hold fulltime jobs throughout my entire college attendance. In the midst of continuing my college education, well lets say life happened. I endured the challenges of divorce while caring for my daughter - a toddler at the time. But my determination is so embedded in my persona that I never let anything stop me from pursuing my passion. Eventually, I completed my bachelors degree from Florida International University with Honors and later graduated from St. Thomas University School of Law earning several awards for excellence. Passing the Florida Bar exam and becoming a member of the legal community have been some of the many highlights of my life - my daughter being the most treasured and cherished achievement of them all. I am beyond grateful to God, my family, and to this wonderful country for the privileges and opportunities that led me to where I am today. I know first-hand what it means for families to work hard in order to provide better opportunities for their loved ones.
