William Canterberry

William Canterberry is an attorney in the Newark office. He joined LASCO (then SEOLS) in 2017. Williams work focuses on helping victims of domestic violence obtain protection orders, regain custody of their children, and escape abusive relationships. William is motivated to help his clients because he came from a home where domestic violence was a daily reality. William says, Luckily, my family had the resources to bounce back and lead me to the position of being able to help others. I come to work every day to help remove the barriers that prevent survivors from having agency over their own lives. Sometimes the barrier is the attacker, but often there are economic, medical, and social pressures keeping women and men trapped in dangerous situations. Often this means securing affordable housing, public benefits, and other support systems which empower people to escape. Even though I cannot fix every low-income survivors problems, I come to work every day to at least step into her or his corner.
